The advent of high-throughput technology in genomics and proteomics comes the opportunity to big data analytics of genome and proteome data. The ‘Big Data” in genomics and proteomics motivates us developing bioinformatics methods for a full view of molecular regulation networks in diseases and cancers. Dissecting molecular functions will not only increase our basic understanding of genes/proteins, but also translate this knowledge to pharmaceutical and clinical applications. However, this is a challenging task due to the complexities in transcriptional regulations, biological processes, and chemical properties, as well as protein post-translational modifications. Today, we will talk about how we can use mining strategies and big data analytics to solve the inherent complexities of big genome and proteome data for personalized medicine; how we use basic clustering, classification, and hybrid approaches to extract important information and construct comprehensive models to help enhance our understanding of molecular functions.
